Atlantic Forest occupies the 13% of the Brazil territory. This ecosystem is composed of a wide variety of environments, such as: dense forest or hillside Mata; Seasonal forest, inland forests; Mixed ombrophylous rainforest or Araucaria forest; Restinga, Mangrove Beach and Dune.
Approximately 40 percent of its vascular plants and up to 60 percent of its vertebrates are endemic species, meaning they are found nowhere else in the world

The official threatened species list of Brazil contains over 140 terrestrial mammal species found in Atlantic Forest. In Paraguay there are 35 species listed as threatened, and 22 species in the Atlantic Forest of Argentina.
Nearly 250 species of amphibians, birds, and mammals have become extinct due to the result of human activity in the past 400 years.
Over 11.000 species of plants and animals are considered threatened today in the Atlantic Forest.
Over 52% of the tree species and 92% of the amphibians are endemic to this area. The forest harbors around 20.000 species of plants, with almost 450 tree species being found in just one hectare in some occasions.
It presents a high pluvimetric index reaching values between 1800 to 3600mm per year, due to the condensation of the ocean breeze laden with steam that is pushed to the valley of the Paraná River
Itinerary
We picked you up at the hotel and transferred from van to the gate of the beginning of the truck.
The trail and all of it a gentle descent, and most of the path is paved with stones since the time of the Jesuits.
The excursion has an approximate route of 6 km. passes entirely within the forest of the Atlantic, Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
There we can observe several of the species of the most pressing trees of the biome: Pau-Brasil, Ipé, Araucaria, Guapuruvu, Bocuva, Figueira, Canela-Nhutinga, Pine-Bravo, Palmito, Jacarandá , Jatobá, Jequitibá, Embaúba and Macuco herb, in addition to, Orchids, Xaxim (gigantic fern) or Bromeliads...
With luck we can see among the branches some species of monkeys and especially of birds, like the saira of seven colors, the Toucan, the Larangeira Sabiá, the Blue Daw, and of course the Beijaflor (colibri)
